Morley's Final Catalogue: Overlooked. A fully-fed larva in stem of Typha latifolia at Waldringfield, bred in August 1897 (Wlr); bred near Woodbridge 1899 (South); bred from Beccles marshes in August 1929 (MR, D); N. Cove in 1935 (Jackson); Dunwich and Walderswick (Btn); Covehithe 1936 (Mr).

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common on the coast with more scattered colonies inland. Formerly very scarce in the county, has become much more common in recent years.

Life history: Single-brooded. Pupae have been found in Reedmace stems in recent years. They point head upwards, unlike Bulrush wainscot which point downwards.

Identification: Bulrush wainscot is larger and lacks the row of black dots along the edge of the wing. The rare Rush wainscot also lacks these dots.

Habitat: Reedbeds, marshes, ditches, pond edges, river valleys.
